Josette and Scott are heavily involved with the National Entlebucher Mountain Dog Association (NEMDA) and currently hold Event Chair positions for the organization. Creekside Entlebuchers is an approved breeder by NEMDA adhering to the Breeders code of Ethics.
Josette is an Accredited Obedience Dog Trainer, an Associate Certified Nose Work Instructor with the National Association of Canine Scent Work, and owner of NoseWorkFun.
Valiant (Gaelic)
Riley was the first of our Entlebuchers and has been a joy since day one. He is a perfect gentleman to his female pack mates and will do absolutely anything for his human Mom. He is a certified therapy dog and has also earned his Canine Good Citizen and NW1 scenting dog credentials.
We have a tradition where Riley learns a new trick every year during the Super Bowl Halftime show. He will play for hours, and loves to play ball with anyone who will throw it. His howls of joy when we return home warms our hearts every time.
Wished for Child (Hebrew)
Polly came to us in 2010 after the devastating death of her owner/breeder Nancy Farnsworth.
Polly is submissive, polite and loves her tummy rubbed. We were thrilled to see her natural herding talents when she was taken to a demonstration, and immediately was able to herd the sheep without having a class.
We knew she would be a good Mom when she stole all of the stuffed animals in the house and created her own litter. She has proved the point with her first litter in 2011 and is wonderful with the pups.
Joyful (Hebrew)
Elsa joined the family in 2009, and she is very entertaining. She is the most obedient of our three Entles, and will do anything for a ball.
She is very focused when she has a job to do, and this bodes well when she participates in nose-work activities and obedience training. She is very devoted and loves to be with her pack of humans and fellow Entles Riley and Polly.
We laugh at her antics at least once a day, especially when she “talks” to us when she doesn’t get her way and when she becomes a “scarf” on Scott’s shoulders.
An insight to Entles...
One day Elsa dug out Riley's favorite rabbit from the toy basket. Riley noticed and quickly walked over to the toy basket and pulled out Elsa’s favorite chewy toy and placed it next to her. As she noticed the chewy, Riley took his Rabbit. By distracting her with something she wanted he had won his rabbit without a fight.
This rare tri-colored dog the Entlebucher Sennenhund also known as the Entlebucher Mountain Dog and the Entlebucher Cattle Dog, originated in Entlebuch Valley of Switzerland. The Entle is the smallest of the Swiss Mountain Dog breeds, the other breeds are the Appenzeller, the Bernese and Greater Swiss Mountain dog.
It is believed that the Entlebucher is a decedent of a Roman Breed herding dog brought to Switzerland while the Romans invaded Switzerland. In 1889, the Entlebucher was distinguished as a separate breed from the other 3 Swiss breeds. In 1913 Albert Heim showed 4 bobtail Entlebucher Sennehund which acknowledged them in the Swiss Kennel Club. After World War I there were only sixteen dogs found and in 1927 Dr. B. Kobler, began breeding to restore the breed.
They are great companion dogs, and their medium compact body is full of energy. They are also very loyal preferring your companionship. They will go everywhere you go. Entles love Herding, Carting, Obedience, Rally-O, Hiking, Fly ball, Agility, Freestyle, walking making them a great sport dog.
Entlebucher have strong bonds with their master but should not be considered for casual owners. Entles are an active, highly energetic dog for their entire life, which require socialization during puppyhood.
Prized for their agreeable nature, ease of training, and devotion to family, the Entlebucher possesses an excellent work ethic, and the ability to work alone or in harmony with their master.
Entles are tri-colored (brown, white and black).
The Entlebucher is medium sized, compact, and strong.
They have a short, hard and shiny coat, bright black with symmetrical markings of white on the muzzle, chest, and feet; brown patches are present on the eyebrows and between the black and white markings.
A more in depth description is listed under Breed standards on the NEMDA website.
